London’s best-loved airport to close

Stoke Newington International Airport

Stoke Newington International Airport, that is. The oddball cabaret collective – the crew that brought you Live Art Speed Dating and the Ping Pong Quiz Show – are waving goodbye to their north London home this month, after five years of outrageous performance parties.

But it’s not over yet. The, er, airport stewards are throwing a series of events every weekend from now until April 1, when the building will be knocked down so the land can be redeveloped. Highlights include their fifth birthday party on March 23 and the Paddy’s Day Party Weekend from March 15-17. Music and mayhem comes from Miraculous Mule and The Smokey Angel Shades on Saturday 16, plus the ‘Jazzification Station’ will allow you to get your beard glittered. On Friday 15, a folksie line-up of underground raconteurs are ready to entertain you.

Expect their usual inebriated mix of shouting, ridiculous costumes, a festival-esque atmosphere and not a dry eye in the house. Chin up, though, chaps: it’s cheap as chips to get in to say those final goodbyes. Kate Hutchinson
