Who runs the world? Not girls – at least, not yet. That’s the message behind a massive concert that’s just been announced in London for this summer, with Beyoncé in the headline slot. She’s the artistic director of a new organisation called Chime For Change, and one of its co-founders alongside Frida Giannini (the creative director of Gucci) and the actress Salma Hayek-Pinault. Their stated goal is the empowerment of girls and women worldwide, and – lucky for London – their first major fundraising event, ‘The Sound of Change Live’, will be broadcast live around the world from Twickenham Stadium on June 1.
All of which means that tomorrow morning (March 27) at 9am, you can grab tickets to see a storming series of strong female musicians including Florence And The Machine, Haim, Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, Iggy Azalea and Laura Pausini – and a couple of boys, John Legend and Timbaland. And you can feel good about it too, because Gucci are supporting the concert so that ticket buyers can choose to donate the price of their seat to any of a range of selected projects promoting education, health and justice for women worldwide. It will be, essentially, the feminist Live Aid. James Manning
