This week has seen the governing body British Cycling declare a new initiative to get one million more women cycling by 2020. Last summer’s Olympics saw a rise in cyclists in the capital, but it’s still an area with a very high male to female ratio (read their full vision for Women’s Cycling 2013-2020). If you want to get inspired to get on your bike, tonight the V&A are going to show us all that there is more to cycling than lycra with their Friday Late: Eat, Ride, Sleep, Repeat. Among the usual offerings of drinks and music there will be talks, installations, art, workshops, demonstrations, and pedal-powered film screenings all about bikes and cycling. The talks focus on the history of bicycle culture and bikes in terms of graphic design and will feature Boneshaker Magazine’s Mike White and Cycle Love’s James Greig. If you are thinking of taking up cycling this evening will be a fantastic introduction. If you are already a firm fixture alongside the fixies, there will be enough bike porn to keep you wheeling for a while. There is even a bike life drawing workshop with Bobbin Bicycles. Jude Brosnan
