Well March was pretty freezing and un-spring-like so we are crossing our fingers, legs, arms and toes that April is a bit bloomin’ nicer. But even if it isn’t, here are five things from our pals LondonOnTheInside to look forward to this month.
Ruby’s, spring menu
‘It might not feel much like Spring outside but head to our favourite cocktail joint Ruby’s, order a Rhubarb Sour from their new spring menu, settle in for the night and then you’ll be blissfully unaware of the terrifying temperatures outside. There’s also Blueberry Pie, English Garden and a Mezcal Flip on the menu but nothing quite beats the Rhubarb Sour. Spring in a glass.’
Restaurant Story, Bermondsey, 16 April
‘The food scene in Bermondsey just keeps on getting better. Chef Tom Sellers has a pretty impressive CV – Noma and The French Laundry for starters – all at the ripe old age of 25. This month he opens Restaurant Story. The food will be served in either 6 or 10 course menus featuring some pretty adventurous concoctions, and you can be sure of a media/blogger frenzy. Get in there first or expect long waiting lists.’
Cambalache pop-up, MC Motors, 17 April
‘One night in Argentina for just £35 including food and booze? We’re in! Before you get too excited, there ain’t no planes involved. Instead this pop-up is taking place in the heart of east London, but will feature all that is great from the South American country. 150 wines, music to match, Buenos Aires street food, historical cocktails, graffiti artists, dulce de leche and loads more. Looks like we’re all going on a little trip.’
Record Store Day, Various venues, 20 April
‘Record Store Day is one of the most exciting days of the year for us, and it’s always monumental. With limited-edition, special vinyl exclusives and collaborations, it’s a record collectors dream. There are also special live performances in most of London’s independent record shops – we often head down to the happenings at Rough Trade East as they always have a corker of a line-up. A whole day of browsing, listening to records and watching bands in between…RSD we embrace you.’ Like music? Win £500 to spend on a musical shopping spree to celebrate Record Store Day.
The Lab, Tobacco Dock, 25 – 27 April
‘Foodies all over will be drooling over this line-up. The Lab, hosted by hot chef Gizzi Erskine, is a three day event featuring some of the world’s best chefs and mixologists. It’s all about “interactive experiences” with a Noma Flavour Taste Test from Lar Williams, a mixology lab and a live stage with the likes of Alex Atala, Miles Irving and cocktail maestro Tony Conigliaro. Taking place in the quirky surrounds of Tobacco Dock, you can expect to be entertained from start to finish.’
