The pub trade is in the doldrums, with two boozers supposedly closing every week – but every so often there’s some good news to buck that trend. Such as the rebirth of this east London hostelry, which after years as a Chinese restaurant and a leather wholesaler is now back to brimming over with beer. And what beer! The Well & Bucket is a craft beer specialist, with around 18 on tap. It’s at the Shoreditch end of Bethnal Green Road, near Brick Lane, so the food includes hipster-friendly oysters and sliders, and there’s even a cocktail bar in the cellar. Cath Phillips
