As fond as we at Time Out are of a good cup of coffee, we’ll be honest – we’re no experts when it comes to making it. It doesn’t help that the stuff in the office kitchen looks and smells a bit like gravy granules, or that the one time we tried brewing with a vacuum, someone lost their eyebrows.
One man who does know how to make a fine brew, however, is James Bailey. That’s a bit of an understatement, in fact, since when James isn’t overseeing the roasting and brewing at the Clerkenwell outpost of Workshop Coffee, he’s busy competing with the best bean-grinders on the planet. Just last year he tasted glory at the prestigious World Brewer’s Cup and came second in the UK Barista Championships. He’s basically the Gandalf of caffeine.
