What are these idyllic utopian images? Why can’t that be the Vauxhall we all wake up to after falling asleep on the N87? Well, it soon could be. These images are some of the many entries for the redesign of Vauxhall’s Public Realm. The brief for this RIBA competition was to take inspiration from the ‘everyday experiences that our city provides to people passing though’. The area between the Southbank and the new US Embassy is known as the ‘Missing Link’ and the competition aims to give this spot a new identity by utilising the space and creating opportunities for green intervention, inventiveness, and viability all while complimenting the existing developments to ensure a joined up and considered public realm for the entire area. The shortlisted entries are on display at the Garden Museum until April 19, so head down now to get a glimpse of the possible future. Jude Brosnan
