The grandaddy of literary nights out, Book Slam, is hosting an evening of cultural shenanigans for anyone interested in a mash-up of wit, wisdom, food and fun. First comes the ‘three-act’ dinner (courtesy of Hoxton Food Hall), including Italian antipasti, roast leg of lamb cooked with tomatoes, capers and herbs, followed by chocolately-lemon desserts. Then comedian Andrew Maxwell takes to the stage to present the evening’s entertainment. Expect the 28-piece Basement Orchestra, Piff the Magic Dragon – that’ll be the man in a dragon costume doing magic tricks, with his chihuahua in tow – as well as literary musings from Britain’s rock’n’roll novelist, Will Self. The venue is the atmospheric Round Chapel in Clapton, which is capacious enough to accommodate 300 diners.
Book Slam takes place on Sat April 20 and tickets cost £45 a head, or £360 if you book a table of ten. For more info, see bookslam.com.
