Wouldn’t it be nice if, the next time we cooked a meal at home, we made an extra portion for an elderly neighbour? That’s the wonderfully simple concept behind the Casserole Club. This new food-sharing initiative, already running successfully in Reigate, is now being trialled in Tower Hamlets and Barnet, with a view to being rolled out nationally, one ’hood at a time. So even if you don’t live in those parts, if it’s something you might be interested in, sign up (either as a cook or a ‘diner’, i.e. recipient) and the scheme might well come to you next. And if you are in either Tower Hamlets or Barnet and wouldn’t mind occasionally cooking an extra portion for an elderly person in your community, let them know! Tania Ballantine
