Park your Boris Bike in an empty dock for free credit

The old saying ‘You wait ages for a bus and then three come at once’ is giving way to  ‘You finally find a Boris Bike and then all the docking stations near your destination are full’.

This was always going to be a problem so that’s why we see trucks laden with the bikes trying to spread them out across the city. At busy times and in hectic places, this system can fall behind so there is talk about adopting the Parisian style of returning your bike to a fully empty docking station in exchange for 30 minutes free credit.

This incentive could be an effective way of replenishing the stations and making bikes more available. Especially since the fares doubled at the beginning of the year and many people have threatened to quit using the bike rental scheme unless improvements are made. Jude Brosnan
