The Beatles might have sung ‘I am the walrus’ but yesterday, one walrus truly did get to live like a rock star. Well, sort of. Anyone who has visited the Horniman Museum will be acquainted with their legendary stuffed walrus weighing just under a ton. He’s been hanging out since 1901 so it’s no wonder that the big fella was starting to get a bit restless. To give him a change of scene, the conservation department decided to move the titan-tooth up to Margate for a special exhibition.
Throughout the day, the museum updated their social media channels with news of the Walrus’ grand adventure, and just how much man-power it truly takes to move something that colossal in size. With YouTube videos, pictures and regular Twitter updates, this Walrus is more net-savvy than we are! Right now, he’s safely in his crate where he will remain until Wednesday before the big trip. Happy travels big guy, and see you in September.
