Need another reason to whisper a prayer to the gods of sunshine and mint choc-chip Cornettos? Here’s one anyway. Somerset House has just announced the line-up for its open-air movie season. If you’ve never been, watching a movie under the stars in Somerset House’s fancy-grand neo-classical courtyard is a near-perfect London experience (tip one: arrive early with a picnic and listen to DJs as the sun goes down). The season runs from Aug 8 -21 (tip two: take a brolly. Even if the weather turns biblical, the show goes on). This year’s line-up is the event’s best yet, opening with the world premiere of Richard Curtis’s hotly anticipated new romcom ‘About Time’ a month before its release. Other films showing include Ken Loach’s ‘Kes’, ‘The Red Shoes’ and a terrifying triple bill of misbehaving teens – ‘Mean Girls’, ‘Carrie’ and ‘The Loved Ones’. Tickets go on sale on Friday May 24 at 10am (tip three: book sharpish, they sell like hotcakes).
