The play of the year is here! Probably. Co-produced by the Almeida and the team behind ‘Enron’ and last year’s Billie Piper-starring ‘The Effect’, Lucy Kirkwood’s magnificent political thriller ‘Chimerica’ opened on Tuesday and has been deluged in five star reviews – including this one from Time Out – to make it by far the most acclaimed play of 2013 (so far).
Hopping between New York and Beijing, ‘Chimerica’ is an audaciously epic drama that follows the quest of an American photojournalist haunted by the Tiananmen Square Massacre. Running until early July at Islington’s 325-seat Almeida Theatre, tickets have been flying since the reviews came out – if you want to catch it you’re advised to head over to the Almeida’s website immediately as they’ll be gone any minute.
‘Chimerica’ runs at the Almeida Theatre until July 6. Get tickets now at almeida.co.uk.
