In case you’ve not noticed, gin is sort of a big deal in London at the moment. What used to serve almost exclusively as a forfeit in student drinking games has, in recent years, been thrust to the forefront of the booze zeitgeist, with swish speakeasy-style establishments shifting the stuff by the jam jarful.
The latest development in the spirit’s resurgence is Gin Shed – a weekly cocktail club popping up at Skyroom on Tooley Street on Saturday nights throughout the summer. As well as an arsenal of creative gin-based tipples (featuring the likes of nettle syrup, rhubarb shrub and cardamom bitters, all priced £7-£9), there’s also a regularly rotating food offering – head down tomorrow for grub from The Foragers, who, as the name suggests, source their ingredients from the countryside. Mind you, with a menu that includes sloe gin-cured trout, venison burgers and chocolate brownies, they’re presumably getting a little bit of help from their local farmer’s market.
