After our roaring success hosting the Olympics and Paralympics last year, London has just plunged itself into a new sporting mission: we’ve been shortlisted to host the Gay Games in 2018.

For those of you not in the know, the Gay Games is the world’s largest sporting event focusing on LGBT athletes. The event started in 1982 and has taken place worldwide from San Francisco to Sydney, but to date, England has never hosted it. Boris Johnson declared the shortlisting as ‘fantastic news’, with high profile bigwigs Nick Clegg, Hugh Robertson and John Bercow also waving the rainbow flag.

Alex Davis, chairman of London 2018 bid said ‘We are thrilled that London has been shortlisted to host the Gay Games in 2018. This is an amazing opportunity to showcase London and our vibrant LGBT community and we look forward to showing all that London has to offer to the FGG site inspectors in July.’

Stay tuned to see how we get on.
