Wine tasting can’t be that hard, right? Sniffing and quaffing barrel-loads of vino and occasionally muttering things like ‘jammy’, ‘gooseberries’, or ‘freshly spilled petrol on a south London council estate’ (okay, maybe not that one). If you think you’ve got a decent set of tastebuds, then why not enter The Palate? Run by Oddbins, it’s a nationwide search for an amateur wine taster (open to anyone over 18 and not working in the wine trade), with hundreds of bottles of wine up for grabs and a grand prize of a ten-day wine tasting trip to Australia and New Zealand for two. It’s free to enter – just pop into your local branch of Oddbins on the weekends of June 8-9 for ‘round one’, a simple blind tasting of one white and one red with a few multiple choice questions on a postcard.
