Mac made in heaven, now served in Soho

When Mac met Cheese

The Mac Daddy of all London’s macaroni cheese joints, When Mac Met Cheese, has set up shop in Soho for a six-week stint this summer. WMMC can usually be found every weekend dishing up rich and gooey pasta at Camden Lock Market, but this month the stall has schlepped central to The Endurance on Berwick Street. Making mac and cheese better than mamma used to, the reason to visit WMMC is threefold: firstly, on the carb-heavy menu is a set of mouth-watering macs (£6 per dish), which include a classic red leicester and nutmeg, jalapeno (surprisingly good), and stilton with broccoli (lardons and chicken can be added for an extra £1). Secondly, their signature Macancinis (breaded and then deep-fried balls of pasta) ooze with cheese like fromage-filled Ferrero Rocher. Lastly, when you’re reeling for a sugar hit, get yourself a deep-fried Oreo, dusted with icing sugar (see below). Not for the faint-hearted and not strictly on the Beyoncé Diet, When Mac Met Cheese does offer the perfect grub to beat those Monday blues. And if the sun’s shining (we wish), get your meal to takeaway and enjoy your carbfest in the park. Liz Darke

When Mac Met Cheese is at The Endurance, 90 Berwick St, W1F 0QB until the end of June. See their Facebook page for more details and follow @MacMetCheese.
