Is Barbie moving to the Barbican?

Barbie's 1998 Dreamhouse

Moving house in London is pretty tough. Between finding a van to cart your stuff around, the constant traffic, lack of parking and finding the perfect property in the first place, there’s no wonder it’s the third most stressful life event you can experience. And that’s just moving from zone one to zone three. Now imagine if you were moving from California to Knightsbridge. The world’s favourite pink obsessive, Barbie, is doing just that. In a plan to explore more of the world, she is packing up her $25m Malibu home and heading to our our very own London. After working with fashion designer Roksanda Ilincic in 2009, Barbie was so taken with her work that she’s asked Ilincic to create her urban dreamhouse in collaboration with SHOWstudio. We don’t have many details yet but we suspect that the candy coloured walls will be traded in for concrete and that the three storeys might be replaced with something a little more humble and cosmopolitan. Whatever the house looks like, we want to welcome Barbie to our fair city and we can’t wait to for our invite to the house warming. Carly-Ann Clements
