Keen sightseers will be pleased to know that seeing some of the world’s most famous attractions can be achieved a little closer to home. Mayfair’s Burlington Arcade has unveiled its new 180 metre carpet design for its iconic runway, encompassing 92 of the world’s most celebrated buildings.
The carpet was a collaboration between bespoke furniture and interior design company LINLEY and 200-year-old Royal Warrant-holding carpet manufacturers Britons Carpets. It was described by our fair Mayor Boris Johnson as a ‘Magical carpet’, which obviously is about the highest accolade a carpet can hope for. The design includes the Eiffel Tower, Reichstag and the Sydney Opera House. For those who wish to pay a little closer attention, look to the London skyline for the appearance of Mary Poppins, or to New York’s Empire State Building as a rather rotund and disgruntled primate scales its walls. We’re not sure how ‘magic’ it really is – it could just be an overhyped rug – but we’ll leave you to be the judge of that.
