Snapcat: app to help your kitties take selfies

Posted at 8:00 am, June 28, 2013 in Technology

It’s a well known fact that the internet is made up of 50% cats, 30% selfies and 20% miscellaneous (and sometimes useful) stuff… kind of. So it’s not really surprising that the two driving forces of the world wide web have collided to bring the second best app ever conceived by man – after the Time Out app of course. Snapcat – no, we didn’t miss the ‘H’ – is quite simple. It’s an Android app that has a rapidly moving icon which aims to entice a cat to tap the screen, thus taking a self portrait. After the photo is taken, you can edit your kitty’s photography and post it to your social media accounts. Who could ask for more?!

The app was pieced together in just 24 hours at a Berlin competition called Photo Hack Day. It was chosen as one of the winners and has had over 10,000 downloads since. Being cat lovers, we at Time Out are not only thinking about switching from iPhone to Android just to try this out, and we’re looking forward to the next cat driven exhibition to be spawned from it. For now, we’re quite happy being behind the camera taking funny pictures of our cats ourselves. Carly-Ann Clements
