Long gone are the days of listing stamp collecting under the ‘hobbies and interests’ section of your CV. Nowadays, you’re nothing and nobody if you’re not interested in food and eating out in every shape and form. So you’ll be delighted to hear that you can indulge your gluttony (whoops, we mean ‘leisure pursuit’) once more at the return of FEAST. One of the better food festivals, it’ll this year be running from July 4-7 at a new site close to Brick Lane. It’s a ticketed event where visitors have to pay an entry price to get in (and then pay again to eat any dishes), but at least here the organisers make a genuine effort to keep you entertained, with art installations, live music and DJs… so it’s not money for nothing. This year there’s a ‘village fete’ theme too, with coconut shies, ‘bat the rat’ and even hot air balloon flights with table and chairs on board – so you really can eat pie in the sky. The food traders and exhibiting restaurants are high quality and hugely varied: this year’s line-up includes Bonnie Gull, Patty & Bun, Salt Yard and Spuntino. Tania Ballantine
