This Sunday will see Mayow Park take a quintessentially British step back in time to re-live the original Edwardian ‘Wacky Races’. Expect properly trimmed moustaches, displays of the finest tartan in London and the clash of peddle-powered ‘jalopies’ as they cascade around the track.
‘The Remarkable Race’ will recreate the 100 year old tale of six men, three women, a child, some servants and a dog who set out on a mission to create a vehicle that moved upward of the speed of 20mph. What materialised was the creation of a very charismatically British mile-long race that saw wild and reckless vehicles battle one another along the hazardous grounds of Mayow Park.
As part of the Sydenham Arts Festival, the open-air race from Spontaneous Productions will give spectators the chance to meet the drivers and their vehicles and, if you’re a chancer, to place a bet!
