Poor Elton! The ‘Candle in the Wind’ star has confirmed he’s unable to play his headline show in London’s Hyde Park on Friday July 12 due to a bout of appendicitis which has also forced him to cancel all of his upcoming European tour shows.
Ticket holders for the event – part of the British Summer Time series of gigs which has also featured The Rolling Stones – will have their money refunded. The good news is that the show will go on, with all the support acts playing for free in the park. Elvis Costello, Ray Davies and Gabrielle Aplin are among those appearing.
People who have bought tickets only need to bring along their existing ticket in order to attend the event. The promoters, AEG Live, are also offering more free tickets, available to print out here.
As for Elton, he has what the doctors are calling ‘appendix abscess surrounding retrocaecal appendicitis’, which doesn’t sound like much fun. Here’s hoping he makes a full recovery, and is able to belt out ‘I’m Still Standing’ with his usual gusto soon enough.
