This July, London is celebrating East End culture, Cockney style. With history walks, street parties and sing-alongs across Tower Hamlets, the Cockney Heritage Festival will be a great way to have some fun in the current bun. Take your china plates to Poplar for an outdoor film screening, and have a butchers at the Bow pottery and Cockney-themed art at the Nunnery Gallery (complemented with a pie and mash from the caff). Watch a Cockney Dog Show judged by Pearly Kings & Queens at the Bow fair, or ding dong along to the Chrisp Street Market pianist. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, the borough’s Idea Stores are hosting an array of talks and events addressing all that is Cockney; from history and hop picking, to music halls and memoirs, and, of course, that wonderful Cockney rhyming slang. The Cockney Heritage Festival will take place from 18-27 July. Find more cool things to do in the Time Out Hot List.
