If the thought of rodents makes you recoil, it may be best to look away now… a resident ‘supermouse’ pumped up on protein has forced Tesco Metro, Covent Garden to close its doors.
The monster-sized mouse, twice the size of its pals, was found getting stuck into a feast of raw meat, leaving its rather distasteful ‘presents’ behind. An unlucky group of his deceased furry friends have also been discovered lingering amid the food stores. *Shudder*.
Staff had failed to fix doors, pipes and loose ceiling tiles, enabling vermin to access the dairy warehouse and food waste area as well as the shop floor. On failing a total of three inspections hygiene officials no option but to shut down the branch, which attracts 55,000 shoppers a week.
Tesco yetserday pleaded guilty to six food hygiene offences, and made an ‘unreserved apology’ at Westminster magistrates’ court. Though District Judge John Zani could have fined Tesco up to £30,000 he has chosen to send the case to the crown court. Here’s to hoping this isn’t the start of a monstrous murine uprising!
