Get ready for a riot of rural affairs as city culture embraces farmyard fun for the annual Lambeth Country Show.
This weekend the crowds, herds and flocks will be heading to Brockwell Park for Lambeth’s colourful take on the traditional country fair. There will be homegrown veggies, honey hives, horticultural shows, sheep shearing, donkey rides, dog displays and owls to ogle, not to mention the scarecrow and recycled garden competitions, and host of horses, pigs, falcons and ferrets at hand. If last year was anything to go by, there might even be a few knightly surprises too!
All this animal madness is accompanied by a programme of music, dance and theatre, with plenty of arts, crafts and food stalls to get stuck into. The medley of afrobeat, reggae, folk and country, and mix of ackee and saltfish alongside Dorset cream teas is sure to get you in the festival moo-d. So go bellydancing in your wellies, find some yoga zen by the pig pens, and get knitting with your neigh-bours – all the baaaa-rn yard antics are sure to make for a quack-ing show (sorry!).
