St Clement Social Club have organised a ten-day Boyle-fest of movie madness – in an old psychiatric unit no less – from August 8-18. Film fanatics can look forward to Boyle classics ‘Shallow Grave’ and ‘Trainspotting’, as well as crowd-pleasers including ‘Withnail & I’, ‘Great Expectations’, ‘Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind’ and ‘Rosemary’s Baby’. Guests will even have the chance to quiz the man himself in intimate Q &A sessions.
The Time Out team have added an outdoor cinema, which will screen a sprightly array of up-and-coming shorts including films from the BFI Gothic Season and the East End Film Festival. Or alternatively, you could stay up late for the Hendrix afterparty, see live acts The Very Best Soundsystem, Fat White Family, Tankus the Henge, Gorgeous George and Igor Toronyi Lalic and DJ sets from Stop Making Sense Performance, Idle Fret, Death in Vegas, and Julien Temple.
To take make the most of the East End site’s history, The Wellcome Trust have also supported a ‘Day of The Mind’ where teams from the Barbican, artists and scientists will help to inform and entertain visitors about the brilliance of the brain, Ruby Wax will speak on going ‘Out of Her Mind’ and there will be an evocative film programme closing with ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’.
