Fancy a brew? August is overflowing with beer festivals

Beer festival

According to a Ancient Egyptian proverb dating from 2,200 BC, ‘The mouth of a perfectly happy man is filled with beer’. Expect to see a lot of drunkenly contented men stumbling along the streets this August then, as the Great British Beer Festival and London Craft Beer Festival coincide. From August 13-17, the Great British Beer Festival, held in the Olympia Grand Hall, promises more than 800 real ales, ciders, perries and imported beers. Perfect for serious beer enthusiasts. The smaller scale London Craft Beer Festival, held August 16-18 at the Oval Space in Bethnal Green, provides a more chilled out atmosphere with bands and DJs to accompany the 18 world-class craft brewers bringing over 100 craft beers. If you’re not a fan of drinking on an empty stomach, fret not, as both venues will have numerous food stalls serving treats to soak up the alcohol. As if you need another reason to have a pint, but you will be glad to know that Camden Town Brewery have also got some exciting boozy events in August up their sleeves too. Check out their website for more details. Christine Yeo
