You may think London theatreland is being run by big chief artistic directors, but here’s a wakeup call: the animals have taken over. Last week we talked via Twitter to a few of the city’s theatre pets and it turns out they’re practically running the show.
There’s Pluto the black cat, who lives at Battersea Arts Centre and who first arrived as an actor in Punchdrunk‘s ‘The Masque of the Red Death’ in 2007. But when we interviewed him (he tweets with the handle @pluto_bac) he said it’s a full time job staying on top of the theatre budgets.
We also spoke to Hazel (who tweets from @parktheatredog) the large mastiff cross who lives and works at the new Park Theatre in Finsbury Park. She’s the theatre’s meeter and greeter, and, she let slip, will play a starring part in the theatre’s Christmas panto.
But, that’s not all. There’s Kiefer the Yoga-mad bunny too. Check out our online gallery and the interviews themselves here, and in this week’s magazine.
