Museums and galleries across the country are busy dusting off some of their unseen collections for a series of exclusive events and temporary exhibitions as part of the Hidden Treasures long weekend.
The chance to discover some of the more unusual of the capital’s exhibits kicks off today with a sneak peak at the British Library conservation centre, as well as behind-the-scenes tours of the Horniman Museum and the study collection of Central Saint Martin’s.
Drop in to the British Postal Museum and Archive on Saturday from 10am-4pm to learn the secrets of the Royal Mail’s underground railway, make a trip to a pop-up gallery at the UCL Art Museum, or go and see Darwin’s own (zoological) treasures at the Natural History Museum on one of their tours from 11:45am-12:30pm daily.
Hidden Treasures 2013 is taking place in various locations from 22-27 August. Find your nearest museum taking part at hiddentreasures.org.uk.
