Now that everyone has a camera phone and is therefore a ‘professional photographer’, the internet has been flooded with Instagram insights into your ex’s dinner, your mum’s best friend’s dog in glasses and a million photos of that guy you met once’s kids. It’s time to fight back against digital dullness and rediscover the age of analogue at the Hush Puppies pop-up darkroom this weekend.
As well as the darkroom itself, there will be a pinhole camera making workshop, a street photography walk with tips on how best to compose your pics, and a classic camera shop to browse through. Don’t worry if you don’t know your fixer from your developer, as professionals will be on hand to show you what to do to turn your favourite snap into a real life photograph. Then all that’s left to do is take a photo of your creation to share on Instagram… Oh. Katie Forster
The Darkroom is open from 12-8pm at the Old Truman Brewery from Fri 23 – Mon 26 August. Entry is free: bring your own 35mm film camera or a deposit (£100 cash or your passport) to borrow one.
