Forget you’re in the big city and enjoy all the fun of the village fair at the South Bank this Saturday as the iconic concrete slabs will be dripping in bunting for this day-long celebration of old-fashioned country crafts, traditional music and even a dog show.

Family friendly attractions include hoopla and a helter skelter, as well as a falconry display and vegetable sculpture competition (but will the entries match those at the Lambeth Country Show last month?). Kids and adults alike can get crafty at ‘Collage Corner’, whilst the afternoon brings a cabaret-themed twist with vintage-themed workshops and performances.

Handbell ringers are set to play traditional folk songs every hour and the Brent-based Regent Community Brass band will play on the Riverside Terrace from 12.30-2pm. And of course, no country fair would be complete without proud home bakers showing off their perfectly-iced cakes at the Bake-off. You be Mel and we’ll be Sue.

The Village Fair, part of the Neighbourhood Festival at the Southbank Centre, is on Saturday from 11am-4pm.
