‘I Have A Dream’ 50th anniversary: Let Freedom Ring in Trafalgar Square today

Posted at 8:00 am, August 28, 2013 in News

Fifty years ago today, Martin Luther King delivered his famous ‘I Have A Dream’ speech in Washington DC. To illustrate how his words continue to inspire people around the world, fifty British youngsters will take part in the ‘Let Freedom Ring’ ceremony in Trafalgar Square, ringing bells together to signify the continued resonance of the iconic address. Free workshops have been taking place throughout August in local libraries as part of the Dream Series,  in which young people not in employment or education are working towards an arts qualification using Martin Luther King’s speech as a starting point to create their own music and art.

The event, one of many international activities to mark its anniversary, will be broadcast live online along with a discussion on the relevance of the speech’s message to young people in the 21st century.
