Don’t do anything rash: it’s International Bacon Day and here’s a bacon sandwich eating competition to celebrate
Hot on the meaty heels of National Burger Day comes another fleshfest in the shape of International Bacon Day. No, this isn’t just another farcical National Pea Shucking Day or International Dry Cereal Eating Day, this is legit (according to Wikipedia anyway and that’s NEVER wrong). Celebrated annually on the Saturday before Labour Day in the US, Americans will be upping their cholesterol by stacking up the rashers tomorrow. You can do the same at Loaf on Tottenham Court Road from 4-7pm as they challenge Londoners to attempt to eat a huge bacon sarnie in 20 minutes. Sounds easy, right? Organisers the London Eating Challenge, Who’s Jack and Loaf beg to differ.
Feeling up for the challenge? Here’s what you need to know: it’s free to enter; if you don’t finish in the 20 mins, you’ll be charged £16.95; you get a bottomless ice tea to drink while you scoff; winner bags the glory and a free toastie every month for a year. Good luck. Just don’t blame us when your body gets annoyed with you.
Or if you’d prefer the delayed gratification of celebrating National Bacon Day at a slightly later date, food blogger Eat Like A Girl is the bacon queen and holds cooking classes that include making bacon jam and bacon fudge. She’s got a load more coming up in September so book now (there’s early bird prices if you book before Tuesday Sept 3, too!).
