The Mercury Prize 2013: our shortlist prediction

It’s less than a week until we all find out who’s been nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize. For those unfamiliar: the prize goes to the ‘album of the year’ by a British or Irish artist, as decided by a shadowy panel of musicians, critics and music industry bigwigs. Whether you care who wins or not, it’s a big deal for the winning artist: they get £20,000, a big sales boost and a place alongside past victors including Dizzee Rascal, PJ Harvey, Arctic Monkeys and The XX (and Roni Size, Talvin Singh and M People – but who’s counting?). So, without further ado, here’s our prediction for the shortlist of 12 nominated albums.
