Posh play-off: Buckingham Palace announces first ever football match

Buckingham Palace

It’s all kicking off at Buckingham Palace next month – the royal venue has announced that it’s to host its first ever football match. A new pitch is being specially created in the grounds to host the clash between two of London’s oldest football teams, Civil Service FC and Polytechnic FC. Don’t expect to see suited civil servants gracefully tackling bearded academics, though – the historic teams may have been the founding members of the Football Association (which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year), but the players are just as fond of a post-sprint nostril clearing as any other. The sides, both based in Chiswick, will go head to head in this right royal fixture of the Southern Amateur League on Monday October 7.
