The mesmerising psychedelic gloopiness of the lava lamp has been a fixture of teenage bedrooms and an automatic reference to the swinging ’60s since the first one was created 50 years ago. To celebrate the anniversary of this retro-tastic classic, Mathmos have gone one giant step further and created a 200-litre lava lamp – the world’s largest, they claim. The monster lamp will be jazzing up the shop at the Southbank Centre until the end of the month – groovy! And if you are curious about how lava lamps are made, the video below explains all:
The world’s largest lava lamp will be on display at the Southbank Centre Shop, Royal Festival Hall, from 11-30th September 2013.
