Can you hear the thunder of statement shoes galloping across the cobbles of Somerset House? The deafening clicks of more flashbulbs than the opening bars of Girls On Film?
That’s because it’s London Fashion Week. After a week of strolling around the sunny avenues of Manhattan, the inbound editors and buyers will soon learn that we do things a little differently here – our designers run late, our fashion editors wear odd socks, and it is going to rain more or less constantly for the entire duration. But who gives a flying Fendi?
This year there’s more to look forward to than ever before – from Simone Rocha’s hugely anticipated show at Somerset House to the consistently excellent Jonathan Saunders at the Tate Britain – so you can catch some works of art on and off the catwalk. The British Fashion Council host an evening of fashion film tonight at Somerset House, while non-invitees can take advantage of a week of fashion films, from ‘Zoolander’ to ‘The September Issue’, at St Martin’s Courtyard. Don’t forget your brolly.
If you’d love to see some runway action but your invites got lost in the post, consult our comprehensive guide to events for mere mortals here – and if you’d like to know what the week’s hot shows are then our highlights round up is here – you should be able to watch them all online at londonfashionweek.co.uk. Without having your neighbour’s bony shoulders and sharp Birkin bag jabbing at you while you fight for your place on the front row.
Finally, if you’re headed to fashion week and worried about turning up in an outfit that makes you look a bit like a prat – that is exactly the point. Swot up on our guide to getting spotted by a style blogger here.
