Mark Rylance has always been one of our most brilliantly eccentric actors – and now as director he’s turned in a thoroughly unusual interpretation of Shakespeare’s comedy ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, in which romantic leads Beatrice and Benedick are played by elderly actors Vanessa Redgrave (76) and James Earl Jones (82) in a production that’s set in England at the end of the Second World War. But can Rylance bring the same magic to his aged charges as he brought to ‘Jerusalem’?
