Under Her Skin: a celebration of female tattooists

Posted at 10:00 am, September 26, 2013 in Arts & Entertainment

This weekend Tobacco Dock will be hosting the 9th International London Tattoo Convention. If you’ve ever thought, ‘hey, what’s wrong with tribal tattoos?’ or ‘this heart design I found on Microsoft clip art will look amazing on my wrist’, then it’s high time for a little education in ink. You don’t need to fork out to go to the convention either, because east London’s quirky Atomica Gallery are hosting Under Her Skin, a showcase of illustrations by female tattoo artists in Hackney Downs (until Sep 30). The exhibition has been put together with Things&Ink magazine, which veers away from the male-dominated tattoo media and aims to embrace female tattoo culture. To celebrate Things&Ink’s first anniversary and the launch of their new art issue, editor Alice Snape is curating the exhibition of 12 talented female tattoo artists who have been featured in the magazine over the past year.
