Although it doesn’t often get the credit it deserves, south London has always been a hub of creativity. Damien Hirst and Anthony Gormley’s phenomenal careers began on the humble streets of SE8, among many others. Deptford X has been celebrating the area’s thriving talent since 1998 and the festival is back again this year. On September 27, you can join over one million guests who have attended Deptford X since it began, and also mark the launch of the South London Art Map (SLAM), a user-friendly guide to galleries in south London. Contemporary artist Bob & Roberta Smith  is the Lead Artist for this year’s creative gathering, issuing his rallying cry ‘art makes people powerful!’ and showcasing his new work. Alongside Bob & Roberta Smith, there will also be work shown by over 100 collaborators including Dan Holliday and Bernadette Russell. From 6.30-8.30pm, SLAM will be holding tours of Deptford X, exploring exclusive late-night openings of galleries and studios and there will also be an after-party at cool gallery Enclave.

Deptford X starts on September 27 and continues until Oct 6. For more info head to deptfordx.org.
