Don’t be a wiener, head to Oktoberfest in Hackney Downs

oktoberfest @ Hackney Down Studios

These days if you want to go to the official Oktoberfest, you need to book well over a year in advance unless you fancy selling a kidney to pay for your flight and an accommodation in Munich. But why bother when you can hit the beers and bratwurst closer to home in Hackney? On October 6, Hackney Downs Studios are hosting their very own Oktoberfest as the third instalment of their Village Green Market. For just a tenner, you get to sample three local beers and chow down on a bratwurst from Fleischmob. There will also be plenty of other craft beers and food from the likes of Cast Iron Kitchen, Mama’s Jerk Station and roast dinners at The Russet to enjoy as well as ceramics, jewellery, vintage clothing and trinkets on sale. After a few beers you may fancy trying your luck at apple bobbing or dancing about to the reggae/soul/ska session ‘Three Little Birds’. Ally Swadling
