There’s life in the old dog yet: HMV reopens on Oxford Street

Let’s hear a fanfare for the grandaddy of all music stores, HMV. This week it reopened at 363 Oxford Street – the site of the first HMV store, which opened in 1921. The store moved in 2000, but last January the company went into administration. It was bought out by restructuring firm Hilco, and according to HMV chairman Paul McGowan the company will sell ‘the deepest range of entertainment products’. We’ve no idea what that means, but we bet Nipper, the dog in the store’s logo, would be yelping with delight anyway. Rebecca Taylor
