While it’s true that the stretch limo has become a bit of a megastar cliché, we never thought we’d be sharing tube carriages with A-listers, even on the fancy-pants Jubilee line. However, exceptionally rich and famous rapper Jay Z proved he’s keeping it real when it comes to commuting – he got on at Waterloo on Saturday night to get to his gig at the O2, accompanied by Chris Martin (who had borrowed Matt Cardle’s hat to hide under) and Timbaland, who got the memo about not chatting to anybody on the tube and brought along his Walkman.

Jay seemed to have a pretty good time, but we’re not sure he’d be able to handle the Central line at rush hour. There’s not even room to flick the dirt off your shoulder in those cramped carriages.

But at least he was cheerier than Richard Madden, King of the North, who had a terrible tube journey back in June, and Alex Kingston, who endured a tube trip in April. Rihanna seems to be on the tube all the bloody time these days, but is usually a bit overdressed (underdressed?) to look at home on the platform. And she used a paper ticket. Amateur.

My personal best celebrity tube spot is Simon from ‘The Inbetweeners’. Beat that. Ashleigh Arnott
