Autumn’s arrival may make you feel a little like you’re constantly battling against hibernation. The best way to fight it? Line yourself up some enthralling entertainment. The House of St Barnabas is a good place to start – its new Culture Series has been specifically designed to champion emerging talent and inspire and provoke thought.

The chance to spend the evening in their beautiful chapel should be enough to tempt you to buy tickets, but other pros include Jarvis Cocker introducing the enchanting folk artist Serafina Steer (and other special guests) on October 23, Richard Strange (a founding member of the club) in conversation with author Damian Barr (Nov 14) and a new season of contemporary classical music which kicks off on Nov 5. More than enough to get you through a bleak evening.
