To most, a ‘candenza’ or ‘coloratura’ may sound like something you’d order in Pizza Express. However, that’s all set to change as Silent Opera go about transforming the inaccessible image of opera.

Starting out in 2010, the troupe have been incredibly popular with operatic virgins, offering a different way of experiencing opera through a mixture of live and pre-recorded music. As you consume the visual feast, you can either listen live or wear headphones, through which you’ll hear the live vocals and music mixed with a pre-recorded full symphony orchestra, so you can enjoy the performance as the composer intended it to be.

On October 21, 22 and 23, Silent Opera will be appearing at Heal’s on Tottenham Court Road to perform in their newly refurbished store. For just a tenner, you’ll be able to graze on champagne and canapés while four different acts are performed:  Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Traviata, Dido and Aeneas and  La Bohème. Yeah, might need to google those.
