‘Wave and pay’ to be trialled on the tube

Around 5,000 London Underground passengers will get the chance to trial the new ‘wave and pay’ option on the tube in early 2014, a move that could potentially lead to a longterm reduction in Oyster card usage. Using this system, which you may have already tried on London buses, you simply swipe your bank card across a reader, eliminating a stressful situation if you’ve forgotten to top up your Oyster. The program won’t be rolled out city wide for some time though, as TfL is concerned that it would ostracise travellers without a bank account.

You can find out more about the future plans for the scheme on the TfL website
