Like wine? Like meeting new people? Then why not combine the two at this light-hearted charity wine tasting on Friday November 1, 6.30-10.30pm? After a reception (with fine sparkling wine), organisers of this event in aid of the British Red Cross will be putting individuals, pairs and small groups into teams of ten to drink – sorry, we mean sample – eight wines and then pit their vinous wits against a panel of experts. There’ll be cheese too – to help keep things, ahem, civilised. You don’t need to be an expert (everyone knows it’s the so-called ‘amateurs’ that do best…. Or maybe they’re just hustlers). There are prizes for the winning team, plus a raffle, and an auction to close the night. Oh, and some lovely views of the Thames to cheer yourself up, should you come last. Tania Ballantine

Tickets cost £45 and can be booked via redcross.org.uk/wine-tasting or on 020 877 7603.
