Well looky here, what a great idea this is! The ‘Eat Hackney Cookbook’ is a cute, colourful little booklet containing 30 fab recipes from restaurants, cafés and community projects in E8. Recipes range from mung bean curry (mugg) that will be familiar to fans of Gujarati Rasoi’s food stall at Broadway Market (see below), to Malaysian banana fritters (kueh kodok) made by community caterers the People’s Kitchen, who turn food surplus into a nutritious veggie meal every Sunday.
Costing just £5, the book is available from shops and eateries across Hackney, with proceeds going to the Hackney Migrant Centre and North London Action for the Homeless, both of whom provide regular free meals to the vulnerable of east London.
You can also buy it online now; details on eathackney.com/cookbook. So, what about the rest of London? Come on, Highgate, Holloway and Hammersmith (and that’s just the Hs) – where are your recipes?
