Every Christmas you’ll see a swarm of money-spinning autobiographies hitting the shelves. But there are plenty of excellent literary releases by comedians, and the Chortle Comedy Book Festival (which starts this Friday) is showcasing some of the best stand-ups who’ve crossed over into the world of literature.
The week-long Ealing festival – the UK’s first book fest devoted to comedy – features Q&A sessions from famous comics, plus plenty of literature-based shows. Johnny Vegas, Al Murray, Count Arthur Strong, Robert Newman, Jack Whitehall and loads more will be discussing their books. Plus there are performances by Jane Austen-themed improv troupe Austentatious, ‘Blackadder’ and ‘QI’ producer John Lloyd and Robin Ince’s Dirty Book Club. It’ll be ace, take that as read (sorry). The Chortle Comedy Book Festival takes place from Friday November 22 until November 29. Tickets vary in price.
